Soeur Ethington | Week 68
Hello everyone!
This week has been filled with so much adversity and yet so many miracles!
Due to the extremely hot weather (imagine being outside all day in 100 degree weather in a country where air conditioning is so rare it basically doesn't exist) this week, doing missionary work has been really difficult. However, we've been working just as hard as we usually do (if not harder) despite our exhaustion and we've already started seeing some miracles.
Here are some of them:
- On Wednesday, we went out porting in an area around the church building. Even though it was only 10 AM, temperatures were reaching up to 90 degrees and inside the buildings it was even hotter! As we knocked on doors, people who answered kept remarking that we must be crazy to be out in this heat. We would just smile and say that our message was too important and we couldn't not share it, even though it was super hot!
- While we were at church on Sunday, we were both feeling a little disappointed because none of the people we'd invited to church ended up coming. It's always hard when you make so many sacrifices to help people keep commitments and then they don't follow through! During the Sacrament, I was praying so hard and asking Heavenly Father for a miracle. Right after the meeting, we were approached by our member friend Marvell and another man. Marvell introduced him to us and said "Sisters, my friend here has been coming to church the last 3 Sundays and you still haven't noticed him! He wants to learn about this church, so will you please teach him?" We were shocked that we hadn't noticed him before (I think we'd always mistaken him as a member) but we were able to set an appointment to meet him on Wednesday!
- Last night, we got a call from one of the members of our ward. She told us that her 10-year-old son Thomas had expressed the desire to be baptized and therefore needs to be taught all the lessons by the missionaries! We were thrilled, especially when she said that they have already chosen a date for his baptism- the 21st of July. We taught him the first lesson today and it went really well, so we are super excited to teach him more!
Anyway, life is pretty good. All thanks to God. It's amazing to see how He blesses us in His own time and in His own way. All we have to do is put in the work and have the faith to wait for Him to bless us! And boy, does He.
Thank you for all your support and love!
À bientôt,
Soeur Ethington
